MPT candidate wants to reinforce Braga as "spiritual capital"

Hugo Varanda, 24, is the Movimento Partido da Terra (MPT) candidate for the Braga City Council in the October 12 elections, with one of his priorities being to reinforce Braga as the “spiritual capital of the country,” it was announced today.
In a statement sent to Lusa, Hugo Varanda explained that, to achieve this objective, his candidacy will support religious diversity of a Christian nature.
He added that he will also fight for free passes for young people and seniors, guaranteeing accessible mobility, and for the “comprehensive” requalification of the municipality's road network, “demanding the central government respect Braga”.
Social justice policies that support large families, precarious workers, and young couples are another of her priorities.
Hugo Varanda has a degree in Archaeology, but currently works in a chain of gyms.
"The MPT in Braga sees itself as a democratic, Christian, and patriotic right-wing alternative, against corruption, against decadent socialism, and against empty populism," the candidate further emphasizes.
In addition to Hugo Varanda, in the race for the presidency of the Braga City Council are also João Rodrigues ( Together for Braga, a coalition that brings together PSD, CDS-PP and PPM ), António Braga ( PS and PAN coalition ), João Batista ( PCP and PEV – CDU coalition ), Rui Rocha ( Liberal Initiative ), Filipe Aguiar ( Chega ), Ricardo Silva ( independent movement Love and Serve Braga ), Francisco Pimentel Torres ( ADN ), Carlos Fragoso ( Free ) and António Lima ( Left Bloc ).
Currently, Braga's executive is made up of six elected members of the Juntos por Braga coalition, four from the PS and one from the CDU.
The current Speaker of the House, Ricardo Rio, cannot run for re-election due to term limits.
